Urea 46% N
Urea
Urea has the highest nitrogen content of all conventional nitrogen fertilizers. Many soil bacteria possess the enzyme urease, which catalyzes the conversion of urea into ammonia or ammonium ions and bicarbonate ions.
Plants easily absorb ammonium ions and nitrate, which are the predominant sources of nitrogen for plant growth.
Urea is the most widely used nitrogen fertilizer globally, based on its nitrogen content.
Plants receive a natural supply of nitrogen from organic matter and soil minerals. However, in most cases, this is not sufficient to meet the needs of plants. If the soil does not contain enough nitrogen, it becomes a limiting factor for optimal plant growth. Such soils can be enriched with mineral fertilizers during the growth phases.
Application is suitable when:
- Urea fertilizer can be incorporated into the soil or washed in (rain, irrigation)
- The soil has a high humus content or high clay content
- The soil is sufficiently moist
- The soil pH is low
- The temperature is low
Continuous dryness, high temperatures, strong winds, and soils with low adsorption capacity or high pH are unfavorable conditions.
Nitrogen serves as a growth nutrient for plants.
